On July 1, 2, & 3 in 1863, in the little town of Gettysburg PA, a great battle of the Civil War ensued.  For three days, in the summer heat, the two armies met.  The Army of Northern Virginia, under the command of General Robert E. Lee, amassed upon the little town of Gettysburg for the first and only battle of the Civil War to be fought on  Northern soil.  General George Meade, commander of the Federal Troops met Lee with a heavy heart.   Over the course of those fateful three days over 160,000 soldiers would face each other over the green grass hills of Gettysburg.  When the sun set on July 3, over 7,000 would lay dead.  But worse, over 40,000 would lay wounded in the summer heat, and over 10,000 would be “missing.”

Ghosts and spirits are said to continue to dwell on this earthly plane when the living person experiences a sudden or tragic death.  Over 50,000 men (and some women disguised as men) were wounded or died in less than 72 hours.  Over two thirds of the wounded would die within the next four months.  All of these deaths were sudden, and most certainly all of them were tragic.  The Ghosts and Spirits of Gettysburg remain as a reminder of the enormity of this horrible tragedy!

Ghost stories abound in Gettysburg.  Almost anyone who has visited the Battlefield has a tale to tell about the spirits left behind in the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg.  Whether or not you believe in Ghosts, taking a Ghost Tour has almost become an essential aspect of the Gettysburg Experience.  Taking a Ghost Tour with Miss Betty is truly “The Best of the Best.”

      About Miss Betty:

Miss Betty is a professional storyteller and living history interpreter who has spent the last five years researching the residents of Gettysburg during the time of the Civil War.  She has told stories in some of the most haunted places in this area including the Cashtown Inn and the Farnsworth House (Both of which have been featured on The Travel Channel's Mysterious Journeys.)  She has recently appeared in the documentary entitled "The Other Side,"  which features her storytelling as part of the narration.

The character of "Miss Betty" is a Southern woman who comes to the town of Gettysburg in search of her lost husband, weaving a web of tales based on the suffering of the citizens of Gettysburg, and the spirits they have left behind.  "Miss Betty" has become a well-known  storyteller in the area, by not only the living, but by those, who on "the other side," eerily await her nightly visits.  Many psychics who have been on her tours report soldiers following her.
